猪母酸 - Tu Bor Sui (Octopus + Fish Cake Dish)

Got a call from my old friend to join them for some yum cha session today.Feeling not enough after had a piece of McDonalds Prosperity Beef foldover (I can't imagine I come all the way back to Butterworth to eat McDonalds!), I decided to go for another round of food with them.

We decided to go to the famous Tu Bor Sui stall in Bagan Ajam. The stall is located just beside the newly renovated Rex theatre in Jalan Bagan Ajam.

猪母酸 or Tu Bor Sui (in Hokkien) is a delicious delicacy among the local here. Tu Bor Sui dish contain white small octopus, with some fish cake and garlic oil. The preparation of this dish is simple, the octopus are streamed and soak in garlic oil together with fish cake. Best served with chilli sauce with ground nut.

I had ordered two big plate of Tu Bor Sui. As far as I know, when the dish is served on the table, we finish it in less than 5 minutes. It was so delicious, a little salty and juicy.

A little history on this stall. This stall started the business as early when I was in primary school (maybe earlier, I don't really remember well). This stall not only famous for Tu Bor Sui, but also the Char Koay Teow and Barley ice drink. The business hour for this stall from 9.30pm till sold out. They don't do business in the day time, only in night time. Some people from penang island and as far as Simpang Ampat come all the way here just to have their famous Tu Bor Sui. I don't know if other places do sell this Tu Bor Sui dishes, cause I can't find any of them in the island. Even the islander also don't know this type of dish exist.

Normally we had a plate of Char Koay Teow together with the Tu Bor Sui. We just had our dinner, therefore we only order two big plate of Tu Bor Sui and two plate of Char Koay Teow to share among four of us. Price wise, I can say it's darn cheap imagine 2 big plate of Tu Bor Sui for 5 people serving, 2 plate of Char Koay Teow, 5 barley and 1 Kikapoo drink only cost us Rm35.00.

I highly recommend this stall, if you love to try the dishes. The quality and taste of the food is just superb.

After we finish our Tu Bor Sui dishes, we continue to Salam Mamak for second round of drink...

:-)
